Judge William Gilford was a harsh judge from a rural area of England. He was known to have zero tolerance and he especially hated pirates. It was not uncommon for him to be harsh on sailors who committed any crimes, even minor infractions. Gilford had a special punishment for anyone he deemed a pirate. He would have them hung at an old dead tree that overlooked the Dark Harbor for any ships coming and going to see. It would later be named Hangman’s Rock. The judge would personally cut the noose’s counter weight with an old axe. Gilford was hanged at the same spot in 1679, when a group of condemned “pirates” overwhelmed their guards. Less than a year later, Gildford was reportedly seen in the vicinity of Hangman’s Rock, dragging his axe behind him, his head listing on its broken neck.

The Judge is featured on page 142 of the DLB core rulebook and has suggested rules to use him in your games of Don't Look Back.
