Fall has always been a special time of the year, and the settlers in Northwoods are eager to celebrate the season with a small feast and bonfires. As night settles in, the reverie is soon drowned out by screams. At first, it looks as if the wind has carried the bonfire’s embers into a swirling mass; then the logs explode from the fire pit as a form of fire and smoke emerges. Soon smaller creatures of smoke and flame chase the settlers into the darkness. The smell of pumpkin pies is replaced with the odor of burning flesh.
